The Wren’s Jig

Recently I’ve been really excited about playing the accordion again, which I’ve hardly picked up for years. I’ve signed up to the Online Academy of Irish Music and while I’m brushing up on my jigs and reels I thought I’d write some tunes of my own.

I’m turning to my family for inspiration, and hope to end with at least four new pieces, for my wife, my kids and myself. The first is a jig inspired by my daughter, and I’m calling it either the Wren’s Jig, or the Dance on the Waves, as she absolutely loves swimming and being in the sea.

I’m not entirely sure what the conventions of a jig are exactly, so I may have gone a bit off the boil, but it feels in the right ballpark to me.
