A couple of years ago I wrote and illustrated a story called The Festival of Animals, and I really enjoyed the challenge of creating a sustained project like that. So, I thought I’d give it another go!

This story is called The Secret of Jan, and is about a local Council receptionist who leads a strange other life. Here are the first few pages I have made. I was keen on having an unexpected protagonist, and one whose job and demeanour present her as an unlikely subject of a story that takes place on the edge of strangeness.

I haven’t done as much prep as I did with the Festival of Animals, and perhaps it shows in various ways, but rough and ready is fine by me.
