For Christmas, my lovely wife bought me a voucher for an oil painting workshop at the Classical Art Academy in Southbourne which I recently attended. The task was to paint a seascape from a photograph, with our wonderful tutor Martin guiding us through step by step.

This was very much an exercise just to get to learn a little about oils, and hopefully will be the confidence boost I need to try it out for myself. I wouldn’t say it feels very me, because everyone came out of the workshop with pretty much exactly the same results, but it was a great experience, and amazing to see the work of the student artists enrolled on the full academy course. It’s incredible to think what you can be capable of with the right tutoring!

Anyway, here’s my results, and the work in progress:
