Here is another attempt at the Playing with Crayons exercise for my course, this time with watercolour crayons and robots as subjects.
I’ve never used watercolour crayons before, or even heard of them. They’re quite weird, really buttery and satisfying when you apply them, but I found them to be a really blunt instrument, hard to control and not too satisfying when you apply water.
They also feel like maybe good tools for very colourful exercises like Adolfo Serra’s birds and creatures (he is the course tutor), but as much as I really love his pictures, it just doesn’t seem to suit me!
What I did eventually find was that they blend together in a really lovely and messy way, which I then used with ink drawings of robots to try and create something a bit muddier and rustier and more me.
