Thumbnail Boozer

The next step on my course Architectural Sketching with Watercolour and Ink is to select an image of a building and make a thumbnail sketch of it on toned paper in preparation for a painting.

Here is a sketch of the Blackfriar pub in London, a classic boozer which has the satisfying corner architecture that we’re encouraged to look out for. There’s an interesting contrast with a very modern building behind. Not sure if I should invent some foreground detail?

And here are a couple of watercolour exercises we’ve done to get used to using the paint.
