A second attempt at drawing up some story ideas for the Domestika illustration course I’m doing. The course is strong on inspiration but is not highly technical, which suits me just fine, but the quality of my work is so limited!
It’s not very seasonal, but these are images for illustrations of A Christmas Carol, a book that must have been illustrated a million times, but at least is very familiar. I don’t suppose it’s possible to do something completely new, at least not from me, but the point for now is just to try and communicate the story.
I think the failures I’m experiencing with these attempts at illustration is that I’m aiming for final images that have crispness and clarity, whereas my nature is disordered, dense and textured, and maybe I ought to work more to my inclinations.
I was wondering if using pastel on black paper might be a distinctive way to go.
