Here is my latest portrait – an amalgamation of a couple of existing paintings that I like.

The colours don’t really stand out as much in the photograph as in the original, which is a shame as it’s one of the things I like about this picture.

I appear to struggle with ears – his ear looks way too high, but I swear it’s like this in the original image. I suspect that what I fail to capture is the appropriate tilt of the head which would make the placement of the ear make sense.

My wife thinks this is my worst painting so far, but it is one of my favourites. She hates the eyes, but they are deliberately left dark and empty and unfinished. Is he soul searching, has his soul been rent from him through his eyes? Perhaps he has simply seen things that he can never un-see.
