For my birthday my parents bought me a book called Karakuri: How to Make Mechanical Paper Models That Move. I’ve played around with making an automaton before – see Mechanical Nature – and would love to really get to grips with the possibilities.

So I have made the first few exercise models, which have been great at teaching me some of the mechanical principles at work. I’ll continue making these models, and plan to adapt them into something more interesting soon,
