Lone Wolf’s Howl

This is another attempt at an illustrative lumen print, following Dances with Crows, and inspired in part by Jackie Morris’ and Robert Macfarlane’s The Lost Words.

This time, the subject is Wolf. Just a couple of attempts this time. It’s a bit painstaking, arranging the plants without them all moving around when you close the lid. There must be an easier way of doing it.

What wind is that, that blows the wild howling from the mountains,

Over the winding, white and frothing, red-edged, rock-edged river?

Low growling grows suddenly to howling, prowling from the forest,

Fire glowing in its half-starved stare. Too late to run, the Wolf has come.
