Song of the Whale

Here is the third of the creatures from my Lumen Songs project, after Crow and Wolf – lumen print illustrations of animals and birds. This time it’s old father Whale.

The lumen prints were made by exposing darkroom photo paper to sunlight with the animal template and various plants arranged on top of the paper.

‘Wave god, beneath the troubling waters!

Heave forth!’ command the shrieking skies.

And all the ocean’s salty sons and daughters

Laugh at Storm’s demanding cries.

‘Elegiac Whale will break the mirror of the seas’, they say, ‘when he so decides.’
