Blasted Heath

This is me having a little go at an abstract landscape of my local Heath, which is a rugged jagged expanse of bleak heathland peppered with pylons and surrounded by suburban houses, industrial estates, train lines and electricity plants. It feels to me like the last vestige of ancient Mordor. A little river runs through it, and an area is sectioned off for wildlife conservation.

A while ago my sister said I should try some mark making exercises so I looked up a tutorial on YouTube and these are the results. I’ve tried to give them a wintry feel, to be in keeping with the season.
