Wildfolk

More playing around inspired by the course I’m doing, Unlock Your Creativity Through Illustration Techniques. Although Adolfo Serra the tutor uses animals as an example I’ve quite had fun with these folk characters from Europe and the UK.

These are all drawings of photos from a brilliant book called Wildermann, of images by photographer Charles Freger, of people in folk costumes, removed from the context of their performance within their communities, and placed into these extraordinary landscapes, usually alone. It really feels to me like the photos capture the spirit essence of these characters. I previously used this book as inspiration for my Krampus puppet.

I’d like to develop these images into something a bit more ambitious, and more from my imagination.
