Combining my Wonderland project with the final exercise in the course I’m doing, here are some playful sketches of ideas for characters in my Wonderland. Although I have stuck to only using pen and ink in reference to John Tenniel.

I feel like some of these characters tend towards being too unpleasant and grotesque, and not really in keeping with my original vision.

It’s interesting how this sort of visual brainstorming takes on a momentum of its own, which can help you explore some unexpected new directions, but I guess the warning is that it can carry you too far downriver.
